"Live like Jay"

"All of us come from the sea, but not all of us are OF the sea.
Those that are return to it, again and again."

Chasing Mavericks is an inspirational, up-lifting film based on a true story about a local Santa Cruz surf hero, Jay Moriarity (1978-2001). The actor who plays Jay, Jonny Weston, immortalizes Jay's spirit and carries on his legacy by demonstrating Jay's importance and value of perseverance and determination. At only 8 years of age, Jay learned the basics of surfing and it wasn't long before he caught his first wave. Once known as merely a myth, "Mavericks" is sought to be one of the most deadly waves in California, if not, the world. Even the most highly skilled and trained surfers fear their lives when it comes to Mavericks. This film captures the essence of where pure passion, hard work, love, and true friendship can take anyone in life. Although it catches the attention of avid surfer and sea fanatics alike, Chasing Mavericks offers a deeper, enlightening message to all its viewers that life is too short to waste it on things you're not passionate about and to take every opportunity as if it were your last.

I would highly recommend this movie, and would give it two thumbs up.

Three of My Favorite Comedy Movies

I am going to highlight  some of my top favorite comedy movies. I really enjoy comedy's, because honestly who doesn't?

Old School

Old School is on the list of my top favorite movies because 1. It's hilarious and 2. It has two of my favorite funny actors: Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn. This 2003 movie is about three best friends: Mitch (Luke Wilson), Frank (Will Ferrel) and Beanie (Vince Vaughn). Mitch moves out of his house, that he was living in with his cheating girlfriend, to a new home on the outskirts of the local college. Little did he know this new house was about to turn into to the newest Fraternity, in which his two best friends pressured him into, in an attempt to return to their youth. This fraternity soon consisted of students of the college, middle-aged men and even an elderly man. I do not want to spoil the movie for you but it is definitely a must see!!

I Love You, Man

I Love You Man is such an awesome movie! I will be surprised if you have not seen it. This movie stars two more of my favorite funny actors, Jason Segel and Paul Rudd. Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) is in desperate need to find some male friends to be his groomsmen for his upcoming wedding. He is set up on a few man-dates by his parents and brother in order for him to befriend these men. Since this is a comedy, I'm sure you can assume how they work out. After the multiple failures of hanging with this random men, Peter is his at one of his open houses and in walks Sydney to his life. This is the beginning to Sydney and Peter's wonderful but a little rocky friendship.

Role Model

This is another movie staring Paul Rudd, along with Seann William Scott. This movie is about two best friends Wheeler and Danny who wind up getting into a little trouble with the law which forces them to join a big brother program. The two men, really uninterested in hanging out with a couple of kids all day, join this group or face going to jail. Little did they know after a little bit of struggle with their sponsored kids, Augie and Ronnie, they would actually end up caring for these kids and coming to realizations about themselves as well.

Romantic Comedies

Today I would like to cover some of my favorite romantic comedies.
First off all I would like to define a romantic comedy as any movie that's plot consists of a romantic relationship coupled with comedy, usually physical to lighten the mood.

To start off I would like to cover "How to lose a guy in 10 days." It follows the story of Andy, a writer, who sets of to find and then LOSE a guy in 10 days. This perfect guy, Ben , turns up. However, he happens to be trying to make her fall in love with HIM. Complications ensue, including nick-names and a "love fern".

Secondly, there is "Bridget Jones' Diary". Considered the ultimate chick flick, the movie, which consists of a woman, Bridget, getting her life together, includes a more estrogen brand of humor, different from the slapstick usually found in rom coms.

Lastly, I'll talk about "What Women Want". Ironically, The main character of this movie is a man. He thinks he is he perfect man until he has an accident. He then is able to hear women's thoughts. This turns into all sorts of shenanigans.

Basically all romantic comedies follow the same formula. Boy meets girl. Complications arise. Complications are settled. Life lesson is learned. They live happily ever after.

As cliche as Romantic comedies are, I'm addicted.

Movies Streaming On Netflix Right Now

When it comes to Netflix, the addictive online service designed to make the movie rental process easier and more convenient than before, as is, it is all about the "watch instantly" option. Who has time to wait for the mailman to show up with our latest shipped out Netflix rental?

I know it can be a letdown when the movie you were dying to watch right that moment is only available via hard copy; I assure you that the Watch Instantly library shouldn't get the bad reputation that it has.

I have compiled a small list of some of the most popular movies, and even threw in some of my favorite movies from Netflix's streaming library. I want to make it known that my list does not do Netflix's streaming library justice.. so if you have a subscription to Netflix, make it a point to rummage through Netflix's catalog.

Sneak Peak

Movie Ratings are ambiguous. Everybody has a different opinion and everyone gets something different out of a movie.

As you all know, the Online Movie Database or IMDb is a collection of ratings of popular movies. The website also includes a list of the top 250 best movies. In upcoming posts we will explore why movies are on this list and where certain movies, pertaining to a post, fit on the list.

See you soon!
